who the fuck is Andy Szawsum?
You know what I hate? 3rd person DJ biographies, likely written by the DJ themselves. So I'm not doing that.
I'm Andy Szawsum. That's pronounced "Andy's awesome." I got this name because when some girls asked for my number around the time I started DJing, that's what I put in their phones. They thought it was my real last name for over a year. My former DJ names were DJ ilu and Illucia, names from a project from my past...Andy Szawsum stuck because people couldn't stop saying it. I've been spinning since 2006. I learned to mix hip hop and trance on a couple crappy Numark tables and an ashy Stanton mixer in an apartment. After my friend took his gear back, I needed to fill the void. I started doing house parties and club gigs and moved on to...just about anything that needs a DJ. My heart is with breakbeat music, meaning I spin all forms of breaks, hip hop, glitch hop, drum & bass, and dubstep. I also play electro, house, and trance...pretty much anything that I dig. I'm a big fan of genre-hopping during sets, and my bigger live shows get pretty crazy with the addition of props and alcohol. I'm currently the DJ and sound engineer for the anime conventions Anime St. Louis and Natsucon, and I play every SUNDAY at 8pm CST on ElectroLouis internet radio. I write a lot of my own remixes, re-edits, and original tracks to throw into my sets--some of them with live vocals. And yes, I do weddings.
